Cowabunga! Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. Animation have teamed up to bring everyone’s favorite ninja turtles to the small screen in what appears to be an epic crossover with the Dark Knight himself, Batman! Through the use of transdimensional travel, the turtles meet up with Batman in Gotham City, where some misunderstandings mean we get to see a martial art showdown as these two sides collide. After the inevitable clash, where fans get to see how the turtles stack up against Batman, the two sides join forces to fight the Foot Clan. Despite how weird this crossover may sound, it’s not the strangest team-up coming out this year. That title is held by IDW Publishing’s upcoming crossover between the Ghostbusters and Transformers, but this is still a close second.

However, the talent behind this film could very well make it a hidden gem among DC’s animated movie list. The movie is being directed by Jake Castorena and written by Marly Halpern-Graser, and it’s inspired by the comic miniseries Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which ran for 6 issues from December 2015 to May 2016. The movie also features an all-star voice cast. On the Dark Knight side of things there’s Troy Baker (Batman vs Robin) doubling up at both Batman and Joker, John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) as Mr. Freeze, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as The Penguin, Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Batgirl, Cas Anvar (Argo) as Ra’s al Ghul, and Tara Strong (Ben 10) also doubling up as both Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Meanwhile, for the turtles, there’s Eric Bauza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Leonardo, Darren Criss (Transformers: Robots in Disguise) as Raphael, Baron Vaughn (Mystery Science Theater 3000) as Donatello, and Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) as Michelangelo.

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 31st. Have you seen the trailer? What do you think of the crossover? Is it the strangest one you’ve seen, or does that title still belong to the upcoming Transformers x Ghostbusters miniseries?
