All Elite Wrestling knew just the doctor to call to feel better about its women’s division and it led to Britt Baker signing on board in January.

For those unfamiliar, Baker is one of Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s top 100 women wrestlers in the world and also earned a Doctorate in Medical Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh. The talented 27-year-old figures to become the backbone of AEW’s women’s division as she prepares for her showcase match at Double Or Nothing against Nyla Rose and Kylie Rae.

Baker will still work some indie dates in Chicagoland, though, before the huge AEW Double Or Nothing show takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 25. In fact, she will take on one of her Double or Nothing opponents, Kylie Rae, on March 15 at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights (IL) as part of Warrior Wrestling IV. She will also wrestle at Shimmer shows at the Eagles Club in Berwyn (IL) taking place March 30-31. Here are tweets with more information on those appearances:

In a recent interview with Diva Dirt, Baker cited her reasons for joining AEW, including a respect and admiration for AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes. Speaking to Kristen Ashly of Diva Dirt, Baker praised Brandi’s willingness to put others before herself.

“Brandi, she truly from the bottom of her heart, values us women. She’s looking out for us in the best way. She wants the best for us,” said Baker. “She has a lot of girl power in her. We’re lucky to have Brandi running the show for the women.

It says a lot of her as a person to not include herself in the women’s match at Double or Nothing. There are promoters for companies all over the world that always make sure they have a spotlight in their major wrestling shows. It says a lot about Brandi that she’s sitting it out and wants to showcase the women.”

Aside from Brandi’s selflessness, one thing that drew Baker to AEW was her ability to continue with her dentistry career while competing for the promotion.

“To be a part of an organization from the ground up is very special to anybody. I see nothing but a huge success for this company. I absolutely love Brandi, I love Cody (Rhodes), the Young Bucks, Kenny (Omega), I think they are geniuses. They’re brilliant. Their minds for wrestling can’t be paralleled with anything or anybody,” said Baker.

“To get to work with these people, how lucky can you be? Not to mention, being able to still practice dentistry in some capacity on the side was huge for me. It is a passion of mine and I went to school for eight years for it. It would be disheartening to kind of throw that away to focus only on wrestling. I always dreaded the day where I was gonna have to choose ‘do I want to wrestle full-time for a major TV company or do I want to be a dentist forever?’ I couldn’t think of a harder decision. Now that I get to do both, I’m so lucky and blessed.”

REALTED: Wrestle Wrap | AEW Rally Recap

Baker’s road to AEW started while growing up in Punxsutawney, Pa. Surrounded by boys, including a younger brother and 13 cousins, Baker told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Bill Schackner in an interview that she became more of a tomboy than a princess sort of girl.

“I was always kind of rough and tumble growing up,” she said. “I was never the girl who played with Barbie Dolls. I always wore my hat backward.”

As she advanced through school, she competed in cross country, track and field and basketball, but said her competitive nature got the better of her in hoops.

“I always had the problem of being too aggressive. I was always in foul trouble.”

She developed an affinity for pro wrestling. She followed Superstars such as her favorite at the time – Daniel Bryan; John Cena and The Shield. Friends told her about the independent circuit. That’s when she decided to do a tryout for the International Wrestling Cartel, a promotion in Western Pennsylvania. She began training in June of 2014 under current WWE NXT couple Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, as well as Super Hentai. Dr. Britt then made her pro wrestling debut in 2015.

Later, Baker gained the nickname “Brittsburgh” as she wrestled while attending dental school at Pittsburgh. Listing the promotions for which Britt has worked reads like a Who’s Who of the indie circuit with appearances for Shimmer, RISE, Absolute Intense Wrestling, Empire State Wrestling, Vicious Outcast Wrestling, Girl Fight, ICW and even appearances with WWE and WWE NXT.

She squared off against Nia Jax on the July 25, 2016, episode of Monday Night RAW. Unfortunately, Baker sustained a shoulder injury on the WWE NXT TV taping on August 20, 2018, in a match against current NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. Meanwhile, she also has NXT ties in that her current boyfriend is Adam Cole, leader of The Undisputed Era heel faction. In addition, she took her talents to the international scene in the summer of 2018, working in Japan for World Wonder Ring Stardom.

Baker has won numerous championships throughout her career. She took the Monster Factory Pro Wrestling Girls Title in 2016 with a victory over current NXT Superstar Deonna Purrazzo. She teamed with Cole to win the WC Big Top tag titles over Beretta and Rocky Romero in 2017. She’s also held the IWC women’s title twice, defeating LuFisto and Ray Lyn in a triple-threat match in October of 2017 for the latest title reign.

In addition, Baker also turned heads with her victory over the most highly-regarded women’s independent wrestler in the business, current Women of Wrestling Champion Tessa Blanchard, for the Remix Pro Fury Title in September 2017. In perhaps her highest profile match, Baker faced current NXT Superstar Chelsea Green, Madison Rayne and Blanchard in a Fatal 4-Way match at All In won by Blanchard.

On Monday, AEW dropped some new merchandise for Baker. Here’s a look at the design that plays off her background in her other profession as a dentist:
