Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade

Dr. Henry Jones Sr. suddenly goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones must follow in his father’s footsteps and stop the Nazis. (Yes they”re back)

Director: Steven Spielberg

Writers: Jeffrey Boam (screenplay), George Lucas (story)

Stars: Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Alison Doody

After Adolf Hitler & the Nazis fail to obtain the Ark of the Covenant, Hitler orders the SS to go after the cup of Christ otherwise known as, “the Holy Grail”.  Indiana Jones is pressed back into action after a mining magnate’s lead researcher disappears mysteriously. The lead researcher is none other than Indy’s dad, the feisty Professor Henry Jones. Time for Indy to swing into action to save his father and keep the Nazis from getting their (still greasy) paws onto the cup of Christ.

  • Indy and Marcus Brody meet up with a Dr. Elsa Schneider in Venice, Indiana & Marcus discover that a 2nd marker that reveals the location of the grail is buried in the catacombs of a converted church; All while escaping from rats (Italian rats at that), fire (more like an explosion), gunmen (maybe it’s just a misunderstanding), and a ship’s propeller.
  • Indy discovers that his dad is being held in a castle on the German border with Austria. Indy and his dad escape on German motor bikes (but not before setting the castle on fire course) .
  • Indy and his father got to the Berlin to escape. Indy books tickets aboard a dirigible (yeah those are reliable). However, they are forced to leave the dirigible using the search plane attached underneath. They are chased by Luftwaffe fighters and are forced to land. (Indy’s father shoots the tail off their  ownplane with it’s machine gun!)

  • Indy and Henry rendezvous with Indy’s pal Sallah, they learn that Marcus, whom Indy had given a map leading to the Grail, was captured by Nazis (and their greasy paws). They Track them down; Indy, Henry, and Sallah see Marcus is escorted by a company of Nazi troopers with a World War I-vintage tank (like the Nazis don’t have better tanks or something). Indy pursues the tank and a prolonged fight ensues where Marcus and Henry have been captured. Indy rescues the two of them, but the tank drives off a sheer cliff.
  • The four men soon track down Donovan’s remaining group at a cliff side temple. The traps within have already killed several of Donovan’s group, and when Indy and his pals are seized, Donovan shoots Henry (typical Nazi move, shoot the Jewish actor), leaving the healing power of the Grail as the only chance to save Henry’s life. Indy thus enters the dangerous pathway, deducing how to avoid its traps and finding the chamber of the Grail. He succeeds in reaching the grail chamber and must choose the correct grail from many false ones.

  • Donovan and Elsa enter, and Elsa chooses a cup for Donovan.  Donovan ultimately ages to death for drinking from the wrong grail (crypt keeper status)
  • Indy then picks the true grail, drinks from it proving it to be the true one and uses it to heal Henry’s wound.

Overall, this is my personal favorite Indiana Jones movie; The movie as a whole is the best put together plot, has the best action scenes and the most memorable characters other then Indy himself. I give this movie a 7.9 of 8 on the Hurt scale.
