New York Comic Con held quite a few surprises for fans this year, including the first Daredevil trailer, an extended video for Aquaman, and an early pilot screening of DC Universe’s Titans to name a few. One of its biggest surprises, however, came during the screening of the Titans pilot, with a first look at the Harley Quinn series also set to air on the fan dedicated service.

The show has been one that most fans clamored for and were granted. With an R-rating, the adult animated series will follow Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and numerous other Gotham City villains in their daily, and disgruntled escapades. While we still don’t have a release date for the show beyond a projected 2019, and the most recently stated “coming soon”, we do have an idea of what to expect from the series’ story. Originally, when the series was announced last year, the synopsis had Harley looking to be “the criminal queen pin of Gotham”. However, earlier this summer, the synopsis was updated with a much higher aim in mind.

Harley Quinn follows Harley’s adventures after she breaks up with the Joker and strikes out on her own in this new adult animated comedy. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of the Doom.

Whether the old goal has been completely discarded, or the new synopsis represents a developed goal within the series, is yet to be seen, but the series does have a 26 episode first season leaving plenty of room for development in the overlapping arc.

In terms of developmental changes, it’s clear that the original promo image showcasing a slew of characters said to be featured along the way might also be in question when we compare to the current art. With much up in the air on this adult series, one thing we do know for certain is the cast. Lake Bell, JB Smoove, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, and Tony Hale join DC alums, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Giancarlo Esposito, and Chris Meloni. Most importantly, however, is the lead cast, Kaley Cuoco, who will be voicing the enticingly bonkers Harley Quinn.

In regards to the first look teaser, Craig Hunegs, President of Warner Bros. Digital Networks stated,

“This is just the beginning of our journey to open up the world of DC for our fans. With new originals, digital comics, and a growing community forum, we’re delivering an immersive experience that blends page and screen, creating a place where fans can share their passions for their favorite superheroes and storylines like never before. With our first original series, Titans, debuting this month we are truly offering an exclusive experience fans have always clamored for.”

Before you continue down to view the first look teaser, be sure to sound off in the comments.

Would you rather the plot focus on a smaller vision by exploring the inner working of the Gotham City underworld, or would you rather see a larger overlapping arc at play? Are you happy with Kaley Cuoco’s performance shown? What characters would you most like to see make an appearance?
