Is there a new Diablo series in the work at Netflix? Well, according to recent rumors there is, and now the Revenge of the Fans site claims that Hellboy writer Andrew Cosby has been asked to write the rumored Diablo Netflix series. So far there is no official news surrounding the rumored series based off of Blizzard’s famed franchise. So take this all with a grain of salt, but there are a few things that hold up.

For starters, Netflix just announced the release date for their second and expanded season of Castlevania, another video game adaptation series that started as a rumor. Aside from this Netflix has been recently making a heavy push into video game and anime adaptations for their “Originals” slate. Another once rumored project, The Witcher, is now also in development for Netflix officially and continue to fit genre focus at hand.

We also know Activision Blizzard has been actively producing their titles for the screen for the last couple years with World of Warcraft having made its big screen debut last year and a Call of Duty project popping its head up a few times since.

With Diablo III rapidly approaching a decade since releasing with Reaper of Souls and Necromancer long behind us and reaching its last avenue with its upcoming Nintendo Switch Release, it’s clear that the next evolution for the franchise is due. Aside from that and Diablo IV possibly being produced as you read this, BlizzCon is right around the corner and Diablo is seeping at all ends making it no better time to release news on a series.

If this production does come to fruition, one thing we’ve yet to hear any talk on is what the narrative of the story could be about. Would it be a direct adaptation much like Castlevania, or would it be an entirely new entry into the Diablo lore?
